Merry Christmas
Christmas-y Portraits of Rose, courtesy of Sony and Precision Camera
Last week, Precision Camera held a holiday party and a Sony event, which spanned two days. They featured their latest camera, the recently announced Sony A7 V. I played with it for a few minutes, and it looks like a wonderful update. If I needed an all-around full-frame camera, it seems like a perfectly logical choice.
On the second day, Rose was modeling. She switched between a tennis outfit to test the A7 V’s fast, sport-like performance and a more holiday-focused look. I shot a lot of frames and figured her Christmas-y look would be apropos for today.
These pictures aren’t with the Sony A7 V; they’re with my new camera, which I’ve been teasing for the last week or so. I promise to reveal it soon. However, I used Sony’s terrific 50mm f/1.2 lens for the first picture, and I shot the next two with my own non-Sony (and non-Sigma) 50mm f/1.2. That may give you a slight hint of what camera I was using.
Rose made one last outfit change before wrapping up. She looked cute in her playful holiday-inspired look. I had met Rose in a previous Precision Camera event, and we had a fun collaborative photography session. She patiently and professionally posed without complaint while I tested different configurations.
I was particularly interested in the difference between continuous LED lighting and natural light, and I was also curious about how the two 50mm f/1.2 lenses might render a similar scene. I saw subtle but meaningful differences, which I’ll discuss in future Substack posts.
I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas Day.
